Russia said that a Russian water drop plane crashed in Turkey during a firefighting mission, killing all eight people on board.

According to a Russian news agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Saturday that the Be-200 plane crashed at about 3:10 pm Moscow time (13:30 GMT) with 5 Russian soldiers and 3 Turkish soldiers on board. citizen.

Turkey’s Anadolu Agency stated that the aircraft was related to the Forestry General Catalogue. The search and rescue team was sent to the Kahramanmaras area.

The private news agency DHA said the plane crashed while fighting forest fires in the inland Bertiz area. It said the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The governor of Kahramanmaras, Omer Faruk Coskun, told Anadolu that wildfires occurred after lightning hit the trees.

“We sent a plane to the area, but we lost contact with the plane not long ago and the plane crashed. The situation is very new. We sent many units to the area where the plane crashed,” he said.

Wildfires in the Mediterranean region of Turkey started in late July and burned thousands of acres of forest, mostly in the coastal provinces of Mugla and Antalya.

Turkish Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said on Thursday that firefighters, helicopters and aircraft controlled 299 fires in 16 days.

After a long heat wave in Turkey and the entire Mediterranean region, 8 people were killed in wildfires.

Climate scientists say that climate change caused by the burning of coal, oil and natural gas is undoubtedly triggering more extreme events, such as heat waves, droughts, wildfires, floods and storms.
