Dr. Al-Duwaini began by addressing the economic, political and social issues society is currently facing, noting that their effects are not concentrated in one place but can be felt worldwide. These challenges, he explained, are the result of a crisis of moral values and reliance on materialism at the expense of spirituality.
Lectures spoke about the importance of planning for the future based on past and present experiences, and of adopting values that drive positive action and appreciation of the world and its resources. Citing many verses from the Qur’an, Dr Al-Duwaini called on people to maintain a positive attitude and plan for the future in order to deal with any crisis that may arise.
The speaker emphasized that to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow, all human beings need to adopt a set of religious values and civilized moral norms to help rational decision-making and regulate individual behavior and protect them from temptation.
Such a value system, he explained, helps build a cohesive society, define its goals and ideals, and maintain its identity. Dr Al-Duwaini noted the relevance of the Document of Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sharif and leaders of the Catholic Church, which promotes dialogue, understanding and tolerance. He states that “~human fraternity” does not distinguish between nations.
The lecture was also attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council; and a number of sheikhs and officials.
The lecture will be broadcast on local television networks and on the Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed YouTube channel (youtube.com/@MajlisMohamedbinZayed) on Thursday 6 April at 5.30pm.
