Smith’s concert took place in front of the d’Arenberg Cube, a Rubik’s Cube-like gallery and events space on the d’Arenberg Vineyard in Adelaide’s famous McLaren Vale wine region. Hosted by Tourism South Australia, the event also features local restaurants, cafes and winemakers, offering the region’s famous shiraz and chardonnay varieties.

As well as the d’Arenberg Vineyards, McLaren Vale is also home to renowned wineries such as Samuel’s Gorge, Brash Higgins (run by New York sommelier turned Australian winemaker Brad Hickey) and Bekkers Wine, a small and preserved The intact winery was designed by husband and wife team Toby and Emmanuelle Bekkers.

It is the Smiths’ first return to Australia since before the pandemic and their first visit to South Australia since 2015. As well as performing at the cube, Smith was also photographed getting up close and personal with residents of Adelaide’s Cleland Wildlife Park, and checking out the city’s dining and nightlife scene.

“I didn’t realize how beautiful it was here,” Smith said, as the sun set behind the cubes and the lights illuminated the seemingly endless rows of vines behind them. “I’m excited to explore South Australia and visit the stunning beaches and wineries,” they added. “I can’t wait to welcome fans to South Australia, share my new music and enjoy the destination with me.”

As the concert ended and Smith took his final bow, murmurs began among the crowd at the after-party with the singer backstage. Smith didn’t exactly open the invitation, but seemed to feel the same way: “It was a really good night,” they said. “I can’t wait to have a drink.”
