DUBAI – Travelers on visitor visas in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) feel a sense of relief after being granted the convenience of same-day visitor visa status changes.
The service is provided by several travel agencies in Dubai and hundreds of people use the air-to-air status change facility every day, which also saves them money.
The chief operating officer of online travel agency Musafir.com said the service is currently offered by flydubai and Salaam Air at Dubai International Airport Terminal 2.
Under the service, people can choose to change their visa status on the same day or stay in a neighboring country for one day and return the next day.
“The process took about four hours that day, and they flew out, waited at the airport in a neighboring country, and returned on a later flight,” he said.
Prices for these flights vary depending on the package, fluctuating between Dh1,300 and Dh1,600.
UAE authorities eased rules during Covid, but new rules were introduced in December last year, stopping the option for visitor visa holders to extend their residence permits from within the country. The rules now force visitor visa holders to leave the country before returning with a new visa.
The practice of exiting the country and entering with a new visa has always existed, but the UAE has changed the requirements for humanitarian reasons during the pandemic.
Same-day change of status has been attracting travelers as some of them find this option cheaper than booking a flight to their home country and entering the UAE on a new visa; flight bookings from the UAE to neighboring countries reflect this as well.
