“Saudi Arabia and UAE pledge ground support,” the source said

New Delhi:

India is coordinating with several countries to ensure the safety of its nationals in Sudan, officials familiar with the matter said today. India is in talks with the US, UK, Saudi Arabia and the UAE over the situation in violence-hit Sudan.

Government sources say the situation in Sudan is very tense and there is a risk of movement of people at this stage.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country’s army and paramilitary groups over the past six days, with some 100 people reportedly killed.

The G7 foreign ministers, including the United States, also called on warring parties on Tuesday for an “immediate end to hostilities” as loud explosions were heard in Khartoum and hooded and uniformed militiamen roamed the streets.

Indian officials said Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had ensured support on the ground.

On Monday, the Indian embassy in Sudan issued a new warning, urging Indians not to venture out of their residences and to remain calm.

An Indian national has died after being shot in Khartoum, the embassy said on Sunday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a 24X7 control room to provide information and assistance on the current situation in Sudan.
