riyadh — Mediation efforts led by United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman released and exchanged two The success was achieved with regard to the number of prisoners. This was announced in a joint statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement confirmed that the success of the mediation work reflects the common and close friendship between the two countries and the United States and Russia, and reflects the important role played by the leaders of the two countries in promoting dialogue among all parties.

Brittney Grainer, a U.S. citizen, flew from Moscow to Abu Dhabi on a private jet after being released by Russian authorities. It was linked to the arrival of Russian citizen Victor Bout, who arrived in Abu Dhabi on a private jet from Washington after US authorities released him.

Both prisoners were received in the presence of Emirati and Saudi officials. The freed prisoners were handed over to U.S. and Russian officials for transfer to their countries.

In the statement, the governments of the UAE and Saudi Arabia thanked the governments of the two countries for their cooperation with the governments of the United States and Russia and in response to the joint mediation efforts of the leaders of the two countries.

The United States and Russia have exchanged imprisoned American basketball star Brittney Griner for Russian citizen Viktor Bout, who spent 12 years in a U.S. prison. President Joe Biden said Greiner was safe and on the plane home from the UAE. “I’m happy to say that Britney is in good spirits … she needs time and space to recover,” he said at the White House.

Griner was arrested at Moscow airport in February. The Russian foreign ministry confirmed the exchange and said it took place at Abu Dhabi airport. “The Russian citizen has returned to his home country,” it said in a statement.
