A delegation from Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council began an official visit to the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council, led the Saudi delegation.
Committee members, including Major General Ali bin Muhammad al-Asiri, Major General Sami bin Zaid al-Hazmi and Dr Abdullah bin Omar al-Najjar, will meet members of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC).
At the latter’s invitation, Dr. Abdullah will hold talks with the Speaker of the Federal National Assembly, Saqr Ghubash.
The two sides plan to discuss the parliamentary relationship between the two councils, which serve as advisory bodies to their respective national governments.
Al Sheikh noted the strengthening of ties between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and highlighted the work of the Saudi-UAE Coordinating Committee.
The Shura Council was established in 1927 by King Abdulaziz, the founder of the modern Saudi state.
The King of Saudi Arabia selects its 150 members, choosing from various combinations of experts.
Parliament has the power to propose new laws, which are then considered by the king for final approval.
A decree was enacted in 2013 stipulating that 20 percent of the council members must be women.
The UAE Federal National Assembly consists of 40 members, half of which must be women.
Half of the members of the FNC are elected by the citizens of the UAE, while the other half are elected by the rulers of the respective emirates.
The FNC has the power to pass draft laws and make recommendations to the chief royal family.
