Saweetie has been “off social media for a year”.
The 29-year-old rap star revealed she took a step back from her social media platform for her mental health.
When asked how long she’s been away from social media, Saweetie explained: “One year! One year. Because I have a brand deal, I have to discover posts, but I’ve been off social media for a year.”
The “Best Friends” hit singer admitted the move helped protect her “peace”.
She told Complex: “Sometimes, I train for good. Sometimes I train for whatever you want to call it. I protect my mental health by maintaining and protecting my peace from negativity.”
In recent years, Saweetie has risen rapidly. But she actually likes to look back at the early days of her career.
The rapper – who studied at USC before she turned her focus to music – shared: “I miss college Saweetie, I miss other creative people. I just want to do something else.
“Everybody wants to charge by the second now, and that kind of loses the art.”
Still, Saweetie feels she has learned from some of her past mistakes.
Asked what advice she would give her younger self, she replied: “Take your time. Don’t [jump] immediately.
“I feel like those hard lessons did make me a wiser woman, but I guess I’ll take my time…who [you] Really being around yourself, really affects your career trajectory. “
Saweetie has always been passionate about supporting emerging artists.
However, the chart-topping star claimed she had “thought everything out” for herself.
She explained: “I just love new artists. No one contacts me or helps me, I figure everything out myself. More women who are capable of helping young women, we should, because no one has helped me.
“But don’t put the chips on my shoulders, you have to be the difference you want to see. So that’s what I did.”
