[ad_1]

Expo 2020 Dubai launched a new strategy to ensure that the Scottish economy has a 4 billion pounds share in the global space market.

Today’s announcement was made in the UK Pavilion at the World Expo, as part of the Scottish Space Day event organized by the Scottish Development International Organization, the Scottish international trade and investment agency. Panel meetings with key industry figures highlighted Scotland’s booming aerospace industry, as well as groundbreaking research and innovation in the country.

The Scottish Space Strategy has a plan to develop a network of satellite launch sites, pursue green technologies, and use existing data analysis and research advantages.

It is a collaboration between the Scottish government and its corporate bodies, industry organization Space Scotland and the Scottish Space Academic Forum. Its main objectives include:

  • Position Scotland as a global leader in commercial space development
  • Establish a series of management launch and orbit services to support the largest launch capability in Europe
  • Develop a world-leading environmental strategy for the Scottish aerospace industry, from reducing emissions to supporting the use of satellite data for environmental monitoring
  • Filling up key capacity gaps by increasing exports and targeted inward investment, thereby creating Scotland’s international economic opportunities

Minister of Commerce Ivan McKee launched the program in a virtual manner at the 2020 Dubai Expo. He said:

“The Scottish Space Strategy demonstrates our determination in the space community to work together to achieve this ambitious agenda.

“Our goal is clear-we hope to have a share of 4 billion pounds in the global space market, provide dedicated launch capabilities as early as next year, and create 20,000 jobs in the industry by 2030. We will expand the industry Increase its sustainability, export and inward investment, and strengthen education to inspire the next generation of workers in the aerospace industry.

“The potential of the industry is huge. Our goals are equally ambitious, and I believe we can achieve them.”

Scottish Space Chairman Craig Clark said:

“This strategy represents a milestone in the development of the Scottish aerospace sector. It appears to be built on the impressive growth and momentum that the industry has shown over the past decade to become a world leader.

“The strategy sets out a growth framework that will enable Scotland to become an end-to-end space system provider for the rapidly expanding global market. We have a young and vibrant community of aerospace companies in Scotland and are ready to elevate the Scottish aerospace sector to a new s level.”

Professor Iain Woodhouse, Chairman of the Scottish Space Academic Forum said:

“We fully support this exciting plan. New talent and scientific innovation from Scottish higher education institutions will become the cornerstone of the Scottish aerospace sector, and we are ready to strengthen and fulfill this role to ensure the success of the strategy.”
