Located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, the planned 11,900-square-foot entertainment space will include a new main stage theater, seven classrooms and a full-service restaurant, and bar.
This is The Second City’s first brick-and-mortar store in New York City in its 63-year history.
Second City opened in Chicago in 1959 as a small comedy cabaret. It has since grown into an influential name in improv comedy, with John Belushi, John Candy, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Chris Farley, Tee Distinguished alumni such as Na Fey, Keegan-Michael Key, Eugene Levy, etc.
“New York City is known as a hub of talent and culture, and we’re very excited to bring Second City’s unique brand of improvised entertainment and education to the city as we continue to nurture the next generation of comedy,” Second City Chief Executive Officer Ethan Dewells. “We launched at a time when the brand was gaining momentum, expanding our footprint in Toronto, Canada, and earning critical acclaim for our latest show.
