“Adaptive Work Schedules Implemented in Public and Private Sectors across the UAE Due to Unpredictable Weather”

The UAE government has taken proactive measures in response to unstable weather conditions. On October 27, 2023, various sectors implemented remote work policies to ensure the safety and well-being of employees.

Federal Government Employees

All federal government employees in the UAE were instructed to work remotely on this day. However, exceptions were made for employees whose roles required on-site presence.

Remote Learning for Government Schools

The directive extended to government schools, which transitioned to remote learning to account for the unpredictable weather conditions.

Dubai Government Entities: Unpredictable Weather

Dubai, under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, declared October 27 as a remote working day for all government employees in the city. Similar to the federal government, exceptions were made for roles necessitating physical presence at the workplace.

Abu Dhabi’s Response: Unpredictable Weather

Abu Dhabi also implemented remote work arrangements for government entities on the same date. Moreover, all schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Al Dhafra Region shifted to online learning for the day.

Private Sector Cooperation

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) urged private sector companies across the UAE to adopt flexible work patterns on October 27. These measures aimed to ensure that outdoor work met occupational health and safety requirements and to safeguard the well-being of workers during their commutes.

The UAE’s swift response underscores its commitment to the welfare of its workforce and residents when faced with unpredictable weather events.
