In Dubai prisons, some inmates are participating in the third Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prison Inmates, as reported by Dubai Police on Friday. This chess tournament is part of prisoner rehabilitation and welfare efforts and is organized by the Cook County Police Department in Chicago, USA, under the supervision of the International Chess Federation (ICF).
Inmates from Dubai Police’s General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments are competing with players from 188 countries in various categories, including men, women, and juveniles.
Brigadier Salah Jumaa Bu Asibah, the deputy director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, stated, “The goal of the chess championship is to channel their energies for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
