Senior official Fotovat to visit UAE, Germany, Moldova and Denmark

Katrina Fotovat, Senior Secretary of State, Office for Global Women’s Issues, will travel to Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Berlin, Germany; Chisinau, Moldova; and Copenhagen, Denmark, May 3-16.

In the United Arab Emirates from May 3-7, senior official Fotovat will take part in the 2023 Global Women’s Summit, titled “Women: Leading the New Climate of Change,” where she will engage with women leaders in business and government on how to Improve economic opportunities for women and girls. On 4 May, Senior Official Fotovat will speak at the Ministerial Roundtable on Public/Private Partnerships to Advance Economic Opportunity for Women and Girls on the US Government’s recently launched US Global Strategy for Women’s Economic Security.

On May 8-9 in Germany, senior official Fotovat will speak at a conference on “Women, Peace and Security, and the Role of Parliament” organized by the George C. Marshall Center for Strategic Studies, the U.S. Department of Defense and Partnership between the German Federal Ministry of Defense and the only bilateral center among the six regional centers of the US Department of Defense. She will engage with parliamentarians from Eastern and Southeastern Europe on the relationship between gender and security and the role of parliaments in advancing the WPS agenda, and reaffirm US leadership in advancing global WPS priorities.

From 10 to 13 May, senior official Fotovat will be in Moldova for a high-level bilateral meeting with senior government officials focused on promoting gender equity and equality. During her visit, she will also meet with women leaders in the private sector and civil society to advance the rights and status of women and girls. She will build on the strong, longstanding partnership between the United States and Moldova to advance human rights, address gender-based violence, and ensure that all those fleeing Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine can find safety, security, and support.

In Denmark from 13-16 May, senior officer Fotovat will join a number of like-minded international partners for the Spring International Atrocity Prevention Working Group meeting at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These conversations will revolve around ongoing atrocity prevention efforts and opportunities for future coordination. Specifically, Senior Officer Fotovat will discuss the continued prioritization of gender-based and conflict-related sexual violence in atrocity prevention and response policy, planning and messaging. The U.S. delegation was made up of the heads of various State Department offices and the National Security Council.
