Several people were killed in a ship collision in the Peruvian Amazon | Peru News

The Peruvian government stated that the two ships collided in the Varaga River in Peru, causing 11 deaths and 6 injuries.

The government statement stated that two riverboats in the Peruvian Amazon region collided, killing at least 11 passengers and many others were missing.

According to Peru’s national television station, at 5:30 a.m. (10:30 GMT) on Sunday, a ship full of passengers hit a ship in thick fog on the Varaga River in Muyuna. A cargo barge.

The accident caused the wooden passenger ship Ayachi to capsize.

The National Institute of Civil Defense said in a statement: “So far, the number of missing persons is still uncertain, with 11 people dead and 6 injured.”

Firefighters, police and sailors are responsible for finding missing persons.

Local television footage showed that when the authorities lifted some bodies, the survivors were crying on the river bank.

According to survivors, the entire family traveled on the damaged boat, including about 20 children.

The passengers belonged to a religious community. They returned to Yuri Maguas after participating in a vigil in a small secluded village called Santa Maria in the jungle.
