President Wawel Ramkaravan also held bilateral talks with Sheikh Shahbut Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, on the sidelines of the 77th UN General Assembly. The meeting was held at the Seychelles delegation in New York.
On behalf of Seychelles, President Ram Karawan expressed his sincere gratitude to the UAE government for all its support to Seychelles so far and the country’s willingness to further strengthen bilateral relations through new avenues of cooperation.
“Seychelles is keen to engage with the UAE in new areas of cooperation of mutual interest and we are very grateful for the growing friendship and partnership between the two governments,” said President Ramkaravan.
UAE Minister Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan expressed the UAE government’s willingness to further strengthen country-to-country partnerships, while also offering support to model island nations such as Seychelles that are leading in key areas only in Africa, but on a global platform.
Sheikh Shakboot gave good news and confirmed that the UAE will implement the second phase of the Barbarons housing project, which includes a new batch of 40 units.
Other topics discussed included border controls, renewable energy projects on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue, the construction of childcare centres, drug rehabilitation projects and the ongoing St Mary’s Hospital project.
The meeting in New York provided an important opportunity for the two leaders to review and agree on the way forward and expected timetable for the above-mentioned projects.
