The award is a new feature of this year’s 12th Sharjah Expo Publishers Conference, a professional programme that opened in 2011. Part of the annual meeting is one-on-one meetings for rights professionals.
Sharjah Books reported that since the conference was established, the Sharjah International Book Fair (2-13 November) translation grants have supported the publication of 1,672 books in 41 languages and/or regions.
Submission Criteria and Instructions
These two new accolades for rights professionals join three other categories in the overall basket of the Book Authority Sharjah Publishers Recognition Awards:
- Best Local Publisher
- Best Arabic Publisher
- Best International Publisher
Each of these three categories has a wallet of AED 25,000 ($6,806).
Those interested in nominating rights professionals are directed to the Sharjah International Book Fair website here. Nominations for this year’s inaugural awards will close on October 7.
From the bookstore: “International Rights professionals can nominate themselves or recognized by their company as eligible for either of the two categories Sharjah Rights Connection Awards. Must be submitted in English Two 500-word testimonials from clients the nominated professional is currently working with, providing a compelling case for why they should win the award. Individual applications only, team submissions are not accepted.
“Applicants must state the category they are applying for and their personal contact details. Applicants may also voluntarily provide no more than 1000 words about their business growth, successful deals, innovations, partnerships and other achievements in the previous year, with supporting images. “
Winners will be announced at the Sharjah International Book Fair Publishers Conference in November.
