With the start of the new school year, Sharjah recorded 3,230 minor accidents throughout the emirate from August 29 to September 9.
The emirate also recorded 317 accidents on September 2, the highest accident in a day so far.
In contrast, a report by the Sharjah Small Traffic Accident Investigation Commission established by the Sharjah Police Headquarters in cooperation with Rafid Automotive Solutions showed that the daily average was 213 earlier this year.
Nearly 60% of accidents are caused by insufficient distance between vehicles, most of which occur between 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock in the afternoon.
Abdelrahman Alshamsi, accident and RSA department manager at Rafid Automotive Solutions, said the increase in the number of traffic accidents was expected because of the frequent movement of vehicles and buses on the road during the school season.
Coupled with drivers rushing to their destinations, some roads to and from the school are congested.
“On September 2, 317 minor traffic accidents were recorded, which is the largest number of accidents recorded in a single day so far in 2021,” Alshamsi said. “Drivers should take this figure into consideration. They must abide by and abide by traffic laws to maintain the safety of themselves and all road users.”
