Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: In its fourth year, Abu Dhabi Festival’s Ramadan Spiritual Music Series has been a huge success with the release of two digital albums, Hymns of Passion and Sheikh Mahmoud El Tohamy -Tohamy’s “The Carpenter’s Daughters,” also known as The Sheiks of the Egyptian Singer. These exclusive releases were commissioned and co-produced by the festival.
The two albums have received an overwhelming response from fans of the festival’s YouTube channel, with more than 1.2 million views since their release from April 7-11. The release of Sheikh El-Tohamy is part of the Abu Dhabi Festival of Ramadan Spiritual Music Series organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan to celebrate Ramadan and its virtues of peace, love in a spiritual environment with respect.
Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation and Artistic Director of Abu Dhabi Festival, explain: “We are delighted to present the return of internationally renowned Egyptian Inshad master Sheikh Mahmoud El Tohamy for the fourth annual Ramadan Spiritual Music Series at Abu Dhabi Festival. Sheikh Mahmoud El-Tohamy praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation in celebrating Arab creators and preserving Arab musical and literary heritage. He sees these cultural and intellectual treasures as expressions of identity and cultural identity within the human framework. In these releases, Sheikh Al-Tohamy collaborated with great composers such as Ammar El Sherei, Salah El Sharnouby, music composer Hassan Abu El Saud and Hani Shenouda.
Hymns of Passion presents authentic Arabic poetry in a modern style, blending Arabic and international music, keeping in sync with different civilizations and cultures while maintaining the dignified status of Arabic poetry. Combining the beauty of spiritual music with social and cultural aspects while retaining the eloquence and beauty of meaning in language, this work was composed by a group of talented artists including Hani Shenouda, Sheikh Abdul Rahim Douai Da, Mahmoud Hilal, Georgina Helmi and 30 musicians.
“The Carpenter’s Daughters” sings the praises of the songstresses who were the first to welcome the Prophet Muhammad in Medina, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and sing his praises outside the Arab Maghreb countries.
Sheikh Mahmoud El-Tohamy’s ability to combine the singing of classical Arabic with a variety of musical cultures while maintaining his originality and unique traditional character is his remarkable One of the advantages. Abu Dhabi Arts Festival provides an innovative platform to nurture artists and promote the development of young creative talents.
Sheikh El-Tohamy has previously collaborated with Abu Dhabi Arts Festival on his first international production, “The Language of the Heart” in 2020, “The Call of Love” in 2021, “In the Hands of God” in 2022 and “The Heritage and Harmony”. The series includes past international composers and composers Sami Youssef, Arabic opera soprano pioneer Heba Alkavas, Lebanese-American singer Mesa Kalla, Indian artist Javed Ali, French Tunisian visual artist El Saeed and calligrapher Dia Alam, famous singers Muhammad Tariq and Wael Al-Fashni and creative young artists from Saudi Arabia: singer-songwriter Tam Tam, singer-songwriter Marwan Fakih, male Soprano Mohammed Khayran Al-Zahrani and composer and arranger Ramy Basaheh.
