President Sheikh Mohammed Ignazio Cassis, President of the Swiss Confederation and Minister for Foreign Affairs, has been invited to visit the UAE.
Swiss officials were invited when Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed visited European countries to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The written message was given at a reception by the president in Locarno.
Sheikh Abdullah conveyed Sheikh Mohammed’s greetings and best wishes to Swiss officials, state news agency Wam reported on Friday. Mr Cassis responded to the message.
During the meeting, the friendship between the UAE and Switzerland and the cooperation between the two countries in various fields such as economy, trade and investment were discussed.
Officials also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
After the meeting, the Swiss President accompanied Sheikh Abdullah to visit the botanical gardens of the Brissago Islands, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Switzerland. They then attended a reception as part of the Locarno Film Festival.
They also visited the headquarters of the Schindler Group founded in 1872, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of elevators, escalators and moving walks.
During the visit, Sheikh Abdullah listened to the introduction of the Group’s companies, production lines, advanced technologies used and the Group’s professional training programs, so that students can be qualified to work in the company after graduation.
Sheikh Abdullah praised Switzerland’s progress in empowering young people to work in this field, an important pillar for economic progress and sustainable development.
Other Emirati officials visiting Switzerland were Reem Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr Hessa Al Otaiba, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation; and Omran Sharaf, Director of the UAE Mars Mission.
