Abu Dhabi: His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Ministry of Community Development, and Mohammad Abdul, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders Salam, today reviewed the history of places of worship in Abu Dhabi during the Global Summit on Tolerance and Human Fraternity.
The Ministry of Community Development participated in the event in partnership with the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Muslim Council of Elders to highlight Abu Dhabi’s status as a global destination for tolerance and religious diversity among community members. Their presence also affirmed the role and principles of the “Document of Human Fraternity”, a joint declaration urging all to live together peacefully under the message that we are all members of the same race.
His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili said: “We join the world’s most prominent religious leaders in celebrating the International Day of Human Fraternity. It calls for prudence and wisdom in dealing with all to instill peace across cultures and denominations culture of dialogue and coexistence.”
His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili added: “The Ministry of Community Development was established to ensure that non-Muslim places of worship adhere to the prescribed conditions, procedures and policies.”
Today, Abu Dhabi is a leading example of spreading tolerance and community cohesion, as the emirate and the wider UAE is home to more than 200 ethnic groups of various religions and cultures; all cared for by leaders and masses. This model of tolerance forms the main pillar of the UAE’s comprehensive and sustainable development landscape, which sees community members as an integral part of the country’s social fabric.
Mohammad Abdulsalam, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Ministry of Community Development to review the history of non-Muslim places of worship in the UAE. Abu Dhabi. This summit provides a opportunity to highlight the efforts of various partners in cementing our shared values and positioning the UAE as a global hub of love, cohesion, tolerance and coexistence among all segments of society.”
Mohammed Abdulsalam added that the mural depicts the history of religious pluralism in Abu Dhabi and expresses the desire of the UAE leadership and its people to unite the brotherhood instilled by the founding father – the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Principles of camaraderie, interdependence and solidarity. Since its creation, the UAE has worked hard to build notions of community cohesion and coexistence, and has worked to foster respect and promote cultural diversity.
During the summit, the Muslim Council of Elders called on people all over the world to celebrate the International Day of Human Fraternity through the practice of kindness, justice, love, peace and coexistence.

About the Ministry of Community Development
The Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development (DCD) was established in 2018 to govern the social and community development sector through a series of policies, strategies, systems and standards.
