Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan unveils “Portrait of a Nation II: Beyond Narrative” as part of Abu Dhabi Arts Festival

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, inaugurated the ‘Portrait of a Nation II: Beyond Narrative’ exhibition today as part of the Abu Dhabi Arts Festival sponsored by His Excellency Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi His Excellency Mohammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism and Member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, attended; HE Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, President of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President; and Abu Dhabi H.E. Huda I. Alkhamis-Kanoo, founder of the Music and Arts Foundation, Abu Dhabi Festival and Artistic Director, along with ambassadors, Emirati officials, participating artists and eminent personalities in the country’s arts and culture.

His Excellency Shahbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan visited the exhibition, which is open to the public today, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, on April 16, and viewed the exhibition of artworks and installations, 15 of which were commissioned by Abu Dhabi for the festival’s exhibition, collectively reflecting the past five decades.

At the heart of the exhibition are more than 100 important artworks, including 15 special commissions, covering the work of 62 key artists, from the founders of the UAE art scene to today’s emerging generation. Over a period of 3 months, the exhibition will host panel discussions, workshops and various events with artists and students.

Exhibition showcases important loans from esteemed partners including Barjeel Art Foundation, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, UAE Unlimited, HE Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, UAE National Pavilion Venice Biennale, Farjam Collection, HE AbdulRahman Al Owais, Cleveland Clinic, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah Museum, Art Jameel, NYU Abu Dhabi, Ramin Salsali Museum and Samawi collect.

In conjunction with the exhibition, as part of the Composers Platform, which helps promote the work of Arab composers and musicians globally, Abu Dhabi Music Festival will showcase a series of new albums released in dedicated installations.

The 19th edition of the Abu Dhabi Arts Festival, with the theme of “Building the UAE Mindset: Innovation, Creativity and Joy”, is sponsored by His Highness Sheikha ShamsaBint Hamdan Al Nahyan, with key partner Mubadala Investments (Mubadala) and energy partner GS能源. The Abu Dhabi Arts Festival 2022 attracted over 1,000 participating artists from around the world, presenting over 300 performances and events. The 19th edition will also include two world tours and 17 world premieres.

The Abu Dhabi Festival 2022 programme is part of the Abu Dhabi Foundation for Music and Arts’ contribution to the designation of the UAE capital as a UNESCO City of Music.
