She’s “very excited” to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast.
The 25-year-old singer will play the beloved Disney princess on ABC’s upcoming reality/animated special “Beauty and the Beast: The 30th Anniversary Celebration,” though she teased the show will be “faithful” to the original film, But she’s also keen to add “freshness” to the character.
She told “Entertainment Tonight”: “Oh my gosh, I’m so excited! I’ve been in the studio, playing with arrangements, of course to stay true to the original but give it a new twist. It’s going to be like HER, And Belle, you know? I’m really excited.”
The producers of “Fight for You” are keen to showcase Bell’s “strength” in the show.
She added: “I don’t think the world has ever seen black and Filipino beauty, and I think we sometimes forget the power in beauty, and I think people will see that in music, just like her.”
HER’s cast in the project — which will be directed by Hamish Hamilton and executive produced by Jon M. Chu — was first announced in July.
ABC said she will take part in an “unprecedented musical performance celebrating and paying tribute to this beloved story” in the two-hour special, which will be recorded in front of a live audience at Disney Studios and airs Dec. 15. out.
HER – who will serve as executive producer on the special – recently landed her first film role in Blitz Bazawule’s adaptation of the Broadway musical “The Purple,” itself based on Steven Spielberg’s 1985 Oscar-nominated film.
HER will be on the project alongside Corey Hawkins and will play the role of Squeak, a jukebox co-waitress turned aspiring singer in the musical, played by Rae Dawn Chong in the original film.
Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey (who debuted in the original film) will serve as producers on the film, which is slated for a 2023 release.
The star has previously expressed her dreams of becoming a top musician and leading actress.
She said: “There are so many things I want to do. People don’t really see the comedy and funny side of me unless I’m impersonating my auntie.
“But I definitely want to do more voiceovers and comedy, but also some serious roles.
“I’m trying to do it all, I know. Whatever it is, one thing at a time. I’ll get there.”
