Shia LaBeouf ‘vilified’ his father in ‘Dear Boy’
The 36-year-old actor admitted that his portrayal of his father in the 2019 film was “nonsense”.
Shia – who plays her own father’s version in the movie – said: “I wrote this story and it’s just f****** bullshit. My dad loved me so much all his life. Broken, of course. Bent, of course. Wonky, sure. But never not in love, never out of there.
“He’s been there all the time…and I’ve also had a world press tour about how bad he is as a man.”
The Hollywood star admitted that he “wronged” his father with the film and the way he handled the situation.
Shia told the ‘Real Ones’ podcast: “‘Honey Boy’ was basically a big story about how bad my dad was, and I wronged him. I remember getting on the phone with him and he was like, ‘I was never in your Read these things in the script sent. “Because I didn’t put that s*** there.”
In order to make the film, Shia actually misled his father.
He now admits the portrayal of him was unfair and inaccurate.
The actor shared: “My dad never hit me, never. He hit me once, once. And the story portrayed in ‘Dear Boy’ is that this guy has been abusing his kids.”
Meanwhile, the Shiite recently admitted that he is now fully immersed in his Catholic faith.
He explained: “I love being there. I love all immersive experiences, not just acting. That’s probably why I love Catholicism. I love adventure, which requires total immersion.
“I consider myself an immersive actor, but method acting has a bad smell. Kind of a jerk, kind of, like, mean.”
