Roanoke, VA (WDBJ) –“Dracula rides again” Heading to the Showtimers Community Theater next month, just in time for Halloween season.
But this isn’t your traditional vampire story. This has a Western twist.
“All of us have this dark Transylvanian castle in our minds, and then we have the Wild West in our minds. It’s really a marriage, a union of the two,” says Mr. Filmmaker Jesse McKean said.
Also don’t expect a helpless heroine in this show.
Gabriel Shelton plays the new character Della.
“It’s been a really fun experience playing the role of this laid-back lady boss. It’s one of the funniest things. She’s a very girly boss. She runs the town,” Shelton said.
Gene Marano is playing Dracula’s main character, aka “The Count.”
He said it was all about preparation.
“It’s hard. It’s a hard accent. You look up a lot. That helps too. A lot of this and all, just having fun. It’s been an ordeal. Month, we’ve been working on it. So we’ve got it all down. We’ve got a great cast,” Marano said.
Speaking of the cast, “Dracula Rides Again” has plenty of newcomers.
“We have a lot of new people coming in and we love them. We are a community theater, so we strongly encourage as much community involvement as possible,” said Showtimers fundraising chair Jamie Stewart.
Community engagement led to the idea of a Dracula-themed blood drive.
“One day I was just trying to brainstorm some ideas, and I thought, it’s pretty simple. We’re doing a show about Dracula. Let’s donate blood,” Stewart said.
Anyone who donates blood for the first time in October will be entered into a raffle for two free tickets, which will make for an unforgettable show, Stewart said.
“Get ready to laugh. It’s going to be a great option,” McKeon said.
“If you don’t, there will be consequences,” Marano joked.
