Auditions for Shrek the Musical

Shrek audition

Star Bright Players will hold public auditions for their fall 2022 production, Shrek the Musical, on Sunday, September 11.

WCPR’s youth troupe Star Bright Players will hold open auditions for their fall 2022 production, Shrek the Musical, on Sunday, September 11.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, “Shrek the Musical” is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring songs by Jenny Tessori (“Through Modern Millie” and “Caroline, or change”) and a side-cut book by David Lindsay – Abel. It brings all the beloved characters you know from the movies to the stage and proves that the story is more than just ears.

“Shrek seems like the perfect show this fall because everyone loves the story and can relate to it on so many levels. All the characters seem to be isolated in one way or another and all Looking for a sense of belonging,” said Shrek the Musical director Leslie Millstead. “Shrek tackles this human condition in a humorous way with characters we all love. We look forward to lots of laughs throughout the rehearsal.”

Auditions for “Shrek the Musical” will be held on September 11 from 1:30-4:30 pm at Freedom Middle School, 750 New Highway 96 W., Franklin. This work is open to ages 10-18.

Star Bright Players will present four “Shrek” performances from December 1-3 at Liberty Middle School’s Shelby Theater.

To register for an audition time slot and to find out more information about audition materials, rehearsal schedules and video submissions, please visit www.wcparksandrec.com. Walk-ins are also welcome during unregistered time periods.

Star Bright Players is WCPR’s award-winning children’s troupe that has been performing comprehensive productions accompanied by live musicians for 25 years. It produces two full-length musical works a year and holds public auditions in February and September.

“Like ‘Shrek,’ Star Bright has many layers,” Millstead said. “Of course, we’re here to produce high-quality shows. But as we work hard during rehearsals, we’re honing the skills of our cast and crew — music, acting, storytelling, architecture, problem-solving at every level Perhaps most importantly, we give participants the opportunity to be their best selves. They learn teamwork, responsibility and empathy. We are family first and foremost.”
