Valerie James dies at 93.
The actress – who was married to “Go On” legend Sid James for 23 years until her death in 1976 – died earlier this year on May 8, her late husband’s birthday.
Her family confirmed the news in a statement via the Sid’s Place Twitter account on Sunday (14.08.22), saying: “In a very sad news, Sid’s lovely wife Valerie James has A performer in her early days, she has died at the age of 93.
“The families of Val and Sid have given me their best wishes for posting, and I’m sure you’ll all join me in sending them our best wishes.”
The cause of death has not been released.
The couple had daughter Sue and son Steve, who became TV and music producers, respectively.
Tributes have been poured in from fans of the actress, with some saying the couple are “now reunited.”
One fan wrote: “Hugging Valerie and the Sid James family. Sid James was a huge part of my childhood on screen through the #CarryOn movie, gave me a lot of laughs and still does today, so thank you.
“Both of them are now reunited in heaven. Rest in peace Sid Valerie. (sic)”
Another Twitter user added: “She’s back with Sid now. Such a devoted wife. Rest in peace Valerie and Sid James.”
Another fan tweeted: “Sad news indeed. I would love to meet her in person, I bet she has a lot of anecdotes about her life with Sid, glad to hear. I send her Heartfelt condolences to the family.”
They started dating in 1950, married two years later, and Valerie starred in The Sid James Show with her man, where she built a successful acting career in her own right, Even appeared with her husband in 1967’s ‘Go On’ The Doctor’.
