Director Siddharth Anand talks about Shah Rukh Khan’s character having no religion Patan, and revealed that there is a deleted scene related to the character’s backstory that may be included in the streaming version. SRK stars as the titular spy in Pathaan, the big-budget action flick that has become Highest Grossing Hindi Movies It caused a huge response in India after its release in February. Pathaan has grossed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.

In one scene, Deepika Padukone’s character directly asks Patan if he is Muslim, and Patan tells her his backstory. He said he was abandoned in a movie theater and was named Pathaan after helping rescue children in an Afghan village. He told her that he visited the village every year.
In an interview with Baradwaj Rangan on Galatta Plus, Siddharth was asked about the “Shah Rukh who has no religion” in the film, who is somehow “Amar, Akbar and Anthony”. Siddharth says it all depends on the belief system he shares with Aditya Chopra and writers Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyerewala.
For Padan, Siddhartha said, his country was the most important thing. He said, “The four of us have the same belief system, and the same movies that we grew up in and believed in. We share that. So, the fact that he doesn’t have a name, and he’s in a theater that’s actually called Navrang Spotted… this was deleted, but you might see this in the OTT version… none of us looked down on it, none of us said it was cheesy.”
