Mikaben died after falling on stage.
The “Fe Lapli” anchor – whose real name is Michael Benjamin – shocked fans when he fell to the ground as he exited the stage at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris as a guest of the music group Carmini. It was later revealed that he had died at the age of 41.
The 20,000-person venue announced on Twitter on Sunday (10/16/22) that singer Lionel Benjamin’s son Micah Ben “died after a seizure on stage despite emergency services effort”.
In a video clip from the show, singer Mickael Guirand announced to the crowd that the situation was “very complicated” as he canceled the show.
He said: “The concert is over. We have to evacuate the room.
“It’s very complicated. We need to pray.”
His native Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henri paid tribute to the singer.
He tweeted: “I am shocked by the sudden passing of young and very talented artist Michael Benjamin ‘Miccaben’. We have lost an important figure in the Haitian music scene.”
The island’s former prime minister, Jean Henry Ceant, called Mikaben “one of the most talented artists of his generation”.
Wyclef Jean, also from the Caribbean country, called him “one of the most influential and inspiring young artists of our generation” in an interview with the Miami Herald.
He added on Twitter that Mikaben was “going too fast”.
Roberto Martino told the same newspaper about his “unbelievable” death of Mikaben, having spoken to him just before taking the stage.
“I don’t believe it,” he said.
“This is someone I have worked with over the years, seen as a brother, a good friend. We talk almost every day. We chat together.”
“He’s so happy. He can’t wait to get on that stage with CaRiMi. It’s one of the greatest achievements of his life. It’s a band he looks up to.”
In a special broadcast on Magik9, singer Tamara Suffren called his death “a blow to the country”, which has been affected by a series of problems in recent years.
