Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Boris Johnson transformation “a day” takes three hours.
The 61-year-old star looks impossibly like the former British Prime Minister from the Sky political drama This Isle of Wands.
However, it took a lot of work to make him look like him, and Branagh had to put on a suit to add to his figure and some prosthetics.
He told Heat Magazine: “It takes about three hours a day to put on a suit that makes me bigger and then put on all kinds of prosthetics.
“One was like a balaclava around the neck, and it took a lot of time to make sure the pieces blended seamlessly into my own skin, so you couldn’t see the connection.”
One of them was a “larger upper lip,” which made Branagh unable to eat.
His eyes are even slanted like that of 58-year-old Boris.
Branagh added: “Then we had to pull down the eyelids to get that slight incline that’s characteristic of the Johnson family – followed by the wig and a bigger upper lip… It’s done a fantastic job, but it’s not a prosthetic that lets you Enter the world of chewing or soup during the day.”
The filmmaker decided he didn’t want to see Boris – who was ousted and replaced by Lizzy Trath – before taking the role.
He said: “I never met him and I decided not to go that route.
“Our job is to try to create a real picture of the person – and then try to recreate as much as you can what’s real in this drama, which is happening on specific days and specific times.
“I did a very detailed study of the way he gave speeches when he was discharged, when we left Europe…hopefully you can develop a tone vocabulary that you might get close to something real.”
