Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville495 W. Dickson St., will open its 2023-24 Procter & Gamble Broadway with “Six” (music, book and lyrics by Toby Marlowe and Lucy Moss) Sept. 12-17 series, which is a musical a pop concert focusing on the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives.

shakespeare camp

Presented by Shakespeare Theater of Arkansas Four-Week Summer Drama Camp At Central Arkansas University in Conway, this will provide students in grades 2-12 the opportunity to learn theater from professional teaching artists and participate in workshops with professional actors from the theater education team.

Summer camp dates are June 5-9, 12-16, 19-23, and 26-30 – 9 a.m. to noon for grades 2-8 and 1-4 p.m. for grades 9-12 point. In addition to the classroom, students will have the opportunity to design original theater productions for the June 30 and July 1 performances.

Fees are $700 for the first child, $550 for each additional child – register before May 1st and receive an “early bird discount” of $50 per child. Discounts are available for UCA staff and students.access Ark Net registration message.

Art: winning artist

Shelby Fleming Recipient of the 2023 Artist Award from the Arkansas National Council of the Museum of Women in the Arts. Artists can use the award, along with a $4,000 stipend, for research, travel, training, studio time, or equipment and supplies; Fleming said she intends to use the funds for materials, equipment and renting a larger studio space to Expanding on the next phase of her recent project “Intuition: Phase 2”.access acnmwa.org.

Books and Literature: visiting poet

Ilya Kaminsky and Katie Faris, visiting poets of the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation, will read and discuss their work Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Reves Recital Hall, Hendrix College, 1600 Washington Blvd., Conway. This will be followed by a reception and book signing at the Trieschmann Gallery. WordsWorth Books in Little Rock sells a selection of books. American Sign Language interpretation services will be provided by Communication Plus+. Free admission.

Kaminsky, born in Odessa, Ukraine, is the author of The Republic of the Deaf, winner of the National Jewish Poetry Book Award, shortlisted for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Faris is the author of an upcoming collection of poems, “Standing in the Living Forest,” which will be available April 4. (Wordsworth will pre-order the book at a public reading on Tuesday.)

Don House’s “Letters to Dan: A Philosophical Guide to the Ozarks,” the first recipient of the Ozark Society’s Sassafras Award for Excellence in Environmental Writing, will read and sign a copy today at a reception at the Fayetteville Public Library . The Ozark Association has chosen “Letters to Dan: A Philosophical Guide to the Ozarks,” Fayetteville author and photographer Don House’s collection of essays and photographs reflecting Ozarks tradition and modern culture in recognition of his inaugural Sassafras Award for Excellence in Environmental Writing. The society established the award to encourage innovative writing and new perspectives on conservation. It includes a $3,000 cash prize and the publication of a new book. Underbrush Books, with support from The Cozy Librarian and Ozark Beer Co., hosts the first NWA Book Festival, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Brewery, 109 N. Arkansas St., Rogers, and Arkansas Street between Walnut and Chestnut Streets. Two stages will feature 26 different local authors and representatives from six area independent bookstores; there will also be a marketplace of more than 30 small businesses, authors and local publishers.
