Sky Ferreira feels ‘trapped’ as a young artist | Entertainment

[ad_1]

As a young artist trying to break into the music industry, Sky Ferreira felt “trapped”.

The 30-year-old star, who was just 18 when she dropped her first single in 2010, revealed how everyone “tried to shape” her in one way or another.

In an interview with Nancy Sinatra for Interview magazine, she said: “In music, everyone is trying to shape you. They know who you should be.

“People became greedy. When I was younger, I got into a situation like ‘you have to do this’ and I didn’t know better.

“It was different back then… the internet was there, but people didn’t realize it.

“I used it to my advantage – it really helped me get things out. But I was put on hold a lot of times.”

In her teens, Sky used MySpace to post early material that was then “classified” as a bubblegum pop image.

This year, after a “musical chair” situation with her major label, she will finally release her repeatedly delayed album “Masochism” — which was first announced in 2015.

She explained: “One person might run the brand and then another person – they just swap seats. I initially wanted to try and build a better relationship with them.

“I’m not going to compromise, but I’m willing to be a little more open because I don’t want to have a bad relationship with them. I want them to do things with me and give me a fair chance.”

Sky reflects on his own experience in the industry and admits it was a combination of sexism and entering the industry at such a young age.

She added: “It’s a respect. A lot of it is sexist, but I also think it’s because I started at 14, so they felt like they could manipulate me or treat me like a 14-year-old. .

“I’m 30 now and still the same.”
