Smart manufacturing will transform Abu Dhabi’s industry

[ad_1]

As Abu Dhabi seeks to strengthen its economy, Industry 4.0 technologies will provide new efficiencies, effectiveness and empowerment to businesses across all verticals. Their adoption will transform the emirate’s industrial sector and reaffirm its sustainability, dynamism and success through smart manufacturing integration. In doing so, valuable economic contributions follow.

Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector is a key driver of economic diversification and has long been nurtured as a catalyst for realizing the potential of digital transformation. Over a 15-year period, $13.8 billion has been invested in building strong industrial infrastructure and innovative business facilities, while the industrial sector alone contributed 10.7% to Abu Dhabi’s non-oil GDP in 2020.

In our opinion, AD Ports Group is witnessing the transformative power of smart manufacturing. As one of Abu Dhabi’s leading industrial facilitators, AD Ports Group’s Economic City and Free Zone offers a purpose-built economic hub in the heart of the capital, welcoming a wave of new investors looking to deploy Industry 4.0 technologies and gain access to technologies such as Maximize plant and other benefits efficiency, seamless data exchange and on-time delivery.

The Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy (ADIS) integrates a vision for smart manufacturing, aiming to double the size of manufacturing in the UAE to AED172 billion (US$45.5 billion) by 2031 and build it into the region’s largest Competitive industrial center.

Through ADIS, Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector will continue to play a leading role in driving sustainable development across the economy and the wider emirate. This is a role that requires increased production, manufacturing and technological advancement. Crucially, this outcome is realistic and achievable with the support of smart manufacturing, which is now as important as ensuring sustainable growth and access to new technologies for future generations.

From investors to established players in the industrial sector, from citizens to government entities, everyone interested in and investing in Abu Dhabi’s future has reason to be optimistic as the industrial sector of smart manufacturing expands. Smart manufacturing can simplify processes, increase productivity, increase competitiveness, enable supply chain management, improve safety and quality control, prepare for the future, and increase business output and profits.

Driving smart manufacturing policy forward requires leadership and investment, and ADIS will provide these services, enabling new partnerships and ensuring the continued growth of the industrial sector. Under the strategy, government-backed funding will come from the Smart Manufacturing Funding Scheme; Industry 4.0 technical regulations will pass smart manufacturing assessment indicators; and competency centres will ensure that current and future talent is equipped with essential skills.

Reviews from across the country

At AD Ports Group, we continue to invest in the infrastructure and facilities required by the next generation of businesses. Backed by advanced digital services and world-class customer service, the existing and planned development of KIZAD’s port-connected industrial estate is creating a complete ecosystem for specific industries, from engineered metals to 3D printing.

Smart manufacturing will be the key to supply chain success. As manufacturers streamline processes by adopting smart manufacturing processes, the drive to increase self-sufficiency and promote domestically produced products will increase.

In addition, the strategy will provide impactful support to introduce homegrown supply chain initiatives to enhance the resilience of the industrial sector. The already extensive Abu Dhabi Gold List, which encourages government procurement of locally-manufactured products in high demand, will also be expanded; while access to foreign markets will be eased through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), as well as bilateral trade agreement programmes.

Smart manufacturing integration opens up new possibilities for Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector and emirate. As the impact and impact of ADIS unfolds, widespread adoption of smart manufacturing will follow, bringing a host of new economic and business benefits. These are exciting times and we are proud to play our part in realizing our national ambitions.
