The Sauk, a community theater in Hillsdale County, is looking for two actors for its upcoming world premiere of “Song of the Desert.” Auditions will be held this weekend.
“Song of the Desert” is about a young, struggling musician who searches for a reclusive muse for one of the most famous love songs of all time, an early seventies tune called “Song of Eliza” . This is a song he has loved all his life. The 60-year-old muse has long since faded out of the public eye, living a simple life as a maid. Set in the sparse abode of Ghost Ranch, a remote northern New Mexico resort, the show explores the elusive and magical nature of inspiration. The show takes place in The Sauk’s 2021 development play. The show contains strong language and moments of self-harm including gore.
Those wishing to audition should prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic monologue. This monologue should be remembered. The production will have an unconventional rehearsal period, including Friday and Saturday. Please keep a complete and detailed conflict list with you. There are 1 male (20s) and 1 female (60s) characters. Trinity Bird will direct the production. Michele Harmon is stage manager.
Auditions will be held on Friday, July 8th at 7pm and Saturday, July 9th at 2pm. Auditions will be held at the Sauk Theater at 240 East Chicago in Jonesville. For more information, visit www.thesauk.org. Show dates are September 8-11. Tickets are now available at www.thesauk.org.
“Song of the Desert” is sponsored by Playford Properties. The 2022 season is sponsored by Joyous Journey Photography. The 2022 media sponsors are WCSR Radio Hillsdale 92.1 FM and The Dale 99.5.
