Soul of Bruce: The Guy Who Performed at the McKnight Center | Entertainment

[ad_1]

This is the moment music fans have been waiting for.

American blues guitarist and singer George “Buddy” Guy performs Friday at Stillwater’s own McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.

Guy has influenced generations of blues musicians, including artists such as Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, and Eric Clapton.

Clapton described Guy as “the best guitarist alive” and his accomplishments reflect that.

Guy wins eight Grammys, ranks 23rdrd exist the rolling stones “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and many other honors such as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, National Medal of Arts and Kennedy Center Honors.

“No matter how good the song or performance is, my ears always find him,” Clapton said when inducting Guy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “He stands out in the group simply because of the originality and energy with which he plays.”

Guy’s musical style is often labelled Chicago blues, but his foundations are deeper. His voice is more unique and independent than most traditional Chicago blues artists. His playing can vary from the deepest, most traditional blues to a creative and unpredictable mix of blues, rock, soul and jazz as he performs.

No two videos of Guy playing are the same. His voice is what students want to hear this Friday night.

Guy’s latest album, blues don’t lie, showing off his original and unique sound. This 16-track album has a mix of styles that any blues fan, new listeners or seasoned veterans alike, will appreciate.

“I’ve been trying to make an album that some kids will accidentally play when they hear it, pick up the guitar and help keep the blues alive,” Guy said.

The concert is part of the McKnight Center’s inspiring rally series with ticket packages to be sponsored by Devon Energy. Attendees can enjoy a preview tailgate party in the outdoor plaza featuring food trucks such as Blue J’s Rockin’ and Rollin’ Grill and The Spud Truck.

Special guests at the event also included OSU Game Day host Les Thomas, OSU men’s basketball team, Cowboys Marching Band, Pistol Pete and Miniature Horse BB.
