Space tourists return to Earth after flying in orbit for three days | Space News

[ad_1]

On Saturday night, the spacecraft developed by Elon Musk splashed down on the calm sea outside Florida.

On Saturday, four space tourists on the SpaceX Inspiration4 mission safely splashed off the coast of Florida, completing the first three-day mission in Earth orbit without professional astronauts.

According to the company’s live video, the SpaceX Dragon capsule’s heat shield allowed it to withstand a descent, then was slowed down by four large parachutes, and then splashed into the sea after 7pm (23:00 GMT).

After returning from orbit, the Earth’s atmosphere rubbed and generated frictional heat, causing the temperature around the outside of the capsule to soar to 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,927 degrees Celsius). The team’s flying clothing has a special ventilation system designed to keep it cool when the cabin heats up.

A SpaceX ship raced to retrieve the space capsule and let the four people leave the spacecraft.

“For us, this is really a journey, we have just begun,” billionaire businessman Jared Isaacman who paid for the trip said by radio from the space capsule shortly after the splash .

SpaceX is a private rocket company founded by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla’s electric car manufacturer. It provided the spacecraft, launched it from Florida, and took off from the company’s headquarters in the suburbs of Los Angeles.

Isaacman paid an undisclosed amount for all four seats in the mission.

He chose three other people to join him—earth scientist and former NASA astronaut candidate Sian Proctor, 51 years old, physician assistant and childhood bone cancer survivor Hayley Arceneaux, 29 years old, and aerospace data engineer and Air Force veteran Chris Sembroski, 42 years old.

Isaacman’s main purpose of conceiving this flight is to raise awareness and donate money to one of his favorite careers, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a leading pediatric cancer center in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s a patient here, and I work there now.

After undergoing a medical examination at sea, the team will return to Cape Canaveral by helicopter, where they Lift off on Wednesday.

Two rival operators, Virgin Galactic with Blue origin, Is also developing space tourism, and their respective founding executives, billionaire Richard Branson and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, everyone participated in the trip.

Compared with Inspiration4’s three days in orbit, those suborbital flights lasting a few minutes are short-distance flights.
