Spain’s digital nomad visa for international remote workers: explained | World News

Spain plans to launch a digital nomad visa for international remote workers in January 2023 as part of a new start-up bill, schengenvisainfo reported. According to reports, the minimum requirement will be between 2,000 and 3,000 euros per month. The decision, to support the country’s startup ecosystem, comes after Spain’s Chamber of Deputies approved the Law for the Promotion of the Startup Ecosystem.

Among other things, the Entrepreneurship Law includes the removal of bureaucratic hurdles and tax incentives, and simplified procedures to encourage the creation of and investment in emerging technology companies.

The visa is also designed to bring more international talent into the country.

“The Entrepreneurship Law, one of the main commitments of the legislature, is part of a series of reforms to improve the country’s business environment, together with the Creation and Development Law and the Bankruptcy Law, which were approved this year. It is also part of this year’s Digital Spain 2026 Agenda One of the most important milestones in the Agenda, the roadmap for the ambitious digitalization plan being implemented in the country,” said the statement provided by the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

The digital nomad visa allows foreign nationals to live in Spain even if they work remotely for companies located abroad. The country is also trying to attract a large pool of international talent to enhance collaboration between start-up companies and universities and research centers.
