A Spanish university dormitory said on Thursday it had expelled several male students after a video of them shouting vulgar threats in a women’s residence across the street went viral on social media and sparked a nationwide outcry indignation.
In the footage, which Reuters could not confirm, a person first yelled from the window of the Madrid Elias Ahuja residence in the nearby Santa Monica women’s dormitory.

“Whores, come out of your hole like a rabbit, you’re a fucking nympho,” he said, also threatening to let women take part in “capes” — outdoor parties and amateur bullfights, which often involve heavy drinking.
Video later showed dozens of fellow perpetrators turning on the lights, opening the blinds and also yelling in a very intimidating scene.
“We cannot tolerate this kind of hatred and attacks on women,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote on Twitter. “It’s very sad to see that the protagonists are all young people… enough macho!”
‘Unacceptable and inexplicable’
Elias Ahuja is one of several private residences attached to the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), the largest national university in Spain. Residents pay nearly 1,200 euros ($1,187) per month for room and board.
The university said it was conducting an investigation and would liaise with other colleges to take disciplinary action against those involved.
“We condemn these statements fundamentally, they are unacceptable and inexplicable,” residential director Manuel GarcÃa Artiga told local radio station Cadena SER of the incident on Sunday night.
A spokesman for the residence told state news agency Efe that several perpetrators had been identified and deported, with others to follow. So far, no names have been released.
Equality Minister Irene Montero said it was vital young people understood the importance of consent and stopped reinforcing a “culture of rape and sexual terror”.
Spain recently introduced tougher penalties for such abusive language or behavior, making all non-consensual sex acts as rape. That was in the wake of the so-called “Wolf Pack” case that gave women’s rights an impetus.
In 2018, five men who described themselves as “wolves” were jailed on a lesser charge of sexual abuse after they gang-raped a young woman at Pamplona’s running of the bulls festival.
