Fresh off his critically acclaimed Netflix series Colin In Black & White, Colin Kaepernick is ready to bring his inspirational life stories to the audience. Oscar-winning director Spike Lee will bring his signature cinematic style as director of an upcoming documentary about Kaepernick’s life before, during and after the NFL, @Variety reports. The multi-part documentary comes from ESPN Films, and production has begun after it was initially announced in July 2020 as part of Kaepernick’s premiere deal with Walt Disney.
A recent press release officially announcing Spike Lee as director, reads: “Kaepernick has never given a full, first-person account of his journey, and he is working closely with Lee. , the latter plans to use a wide range of new interviews and an extensive never-before-seen archive to help Kaepernick tell his story from his perspective.”
Back in October, Colin Kaepernick was both executive producer and star of a Netflix series about his life that also cast Jaden Michael in his younger days Starring Kaepernick. The show chronicles his early life as he overcame racial, cultural and class barriers when he was adopted into a white family as a black child.
Additionally, the upcoming documentary will be co-produced by ESPN Films in conjunction with Spike Lee’s 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks, with former ESPN reporter Jemele Hill serving as a producer.
