St George Arts Festival showcases art, food and entertainment 7-8 April – St George News

British stone.georgeAn unseasonably wet winter has given way to a dizzying spring. Then comes the 44th annual St. George’s Arts Festival—two days of artsy events, food trucks and live music.

The city’s arts festival, taking place April 7-8 in St. George’s historic town square, will dazzle residents and visitors alike with some new twists.

“This is a family-friendly event with something for everyone,” said Michelle Graves, St. George’s associate director of arts and events. “We’ve added several new and huge additions to this year’s festival, which will certainly make it the best St George’s festival we’ve ever had.”

As in previous years, the festival will last 16 hours. This year, the timing is slightly different. On April 7th, the festival will run from 10am to 8pm to accommodate headline band Spazmatics, who will play free concerts starting at 6pm On April 8, the festival runs from 10am to 4pm

One of the largest events in St. George’s, the festival brings together artists and the community from across the country to showcase their ceramics, glasswork, fiber art, paintings and drawings to thousands of attendees.

Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities such as:

  • From 2D paintings, drawings, prints and photographs to 3D works in clay, fabric, metal and glass. 150 local and national artists will sell a wide range of art.

  • This year’s featured artist, Gilmore Scott, showcases Dine (Navajo) culture using bold colors and intricate geometric designs. He paints high desert landscapes using watercolors, acrylics, and colored pencils.
  • Food truck alley near St. George LDS Tabernacle and food court near West Stage. Smells of grilled meat, marshmallows, donuts, jerky and kebabs fill the air with a sweet aroma.
  • The Children’s Creation Station near the Cenotaph Tower, where budding artists will try their hand at making mobile phones, ornaments, headbands or stained glass eggs.
  • The Art Attack 1 Mile Run on April 8 at 9am kicks off the second day of the festival with an energetic run.
  • The Desertscape 2.0 Film Festival is held in the St. George Library Community Room, where film buffs and casual audiences will find independent films. Cool off in the library while watching movies from around the world.
  • 30 street performers provide live entertainment throughout the festival.
