The country’s national weather forecaster warned that Typhoon Muifa intensified into a severe typhoon that is expected to strengthen as it moves through the East China Sea and made landfall on the coast of China’s Zhejiang province on Wednesday.

1. Typhoon Mayfa approached the southern Japanese islands on September 11.
On the 2nd, Japan’s remote Ishigaki Island, part of the Yae water chain at the southwestern tip of the Okinawa Islands, was affected by Typhoon Muifa.

3. The Japan Meteorological Agency said that Typhoon Mufa is expected to maintain its intensity and hit Ishigaki Island near Taiwan.
4. Typhoon Meifa will then move northward towards Shanghai and surrounding areas, the agency added.
5. The China Meteorological Administration issued an “orange” warning — its second-most serious — adding that the center of Mufa was about 490 kilometers (304.5 miles) southeast of Xiangshan City, Zhejiang Province.

6. This will be the twelfth typhoon in China this year.
7. According to Reuters, Chinese media reported that there may be large waves in the southern part of the East China Sea.
8. The China Meteorological Administration also forecasts dangerous sea conditions in the coastal waters of Zhejiang and Fujian.
