Sudan summons Ethiopian special envoy after finding 29 bodies in the river. Ethiopian News

[ad_1]

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the bodies were found on the Sudanese side of the Setit River between July 26 and August 8.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North African countries stated that after 29 bodies were found on the bank of a river flowing out of Ethiopia, Sudan summoned the Ethiopian ambassador to Khartoum.

In a statement released late on Tuesday, the ministry stated that Ethiopians living in the Wad al Hulaywah area of eastern Sudan have confirmed that the bodies are Ethiopians from the Tigray ethnic group.

The statement stated that the Ethiopian ambassador was summoned on August 30 and told them that the body was found on the Sudanese side of the Setit River between July 26 and August 8. It was called Tekeze in Ethiopia.

The statement did not say how people died.

Dina Mufti, a spokesperson for the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

The river flows along the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea, and then enters Sudan at the meeting point of these three countries.

Due to the conflict in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia and Ethiopia’s construction of a huge hydroelectric dam on the Blue Nile, tensions between Sudan and Ethiopia have been at a high level.

Thousands of people fled the conflict into eastern Sudan, where military clashes broke out in disputed farmland areas along the border between Sudan and Ethiopia.

The Sudanese authorities said on Sunday that they had confiscated a batch of weapons shipped by air from Ethiopia and suspected that these weapons would be used in “crimes endangering the country.”

The Sudanese Ministry of Interior said late on Monday that the shipment was part of a legal shipment imported by licensed arms traders.
