The UAE’s Space Sultan, Sultan AlNeyadi, has spent more than a month aboard the orbiting International Space Station (ISS), conducting various scientific experiments to benefit humanity and further space exploration.
AlNeyadi and his crew-6 crew docked at the International Space Station at 10.40am (UAE time) on March 3 after launching from the Kennedy Space Center a day earlier. Here are some of the key experiments he conducted over the past 30 days in his orbiting laboratory 400 kilometers above Earth, where he also witnessed around 500 sunrises and sunsets:
Harvesting, analyzing tomatoes grown in space
AlNeyadi is involved in Nasa’s Veg-05 space botany — a study that, according to Nasa, focuses on the effects of light quality and fertilizers on fruit production, microbial food safety, nutritional value, taste acceptability of the crew, and overall behavior Health Benefits Grow plants and fresh food in space.
Test drug, conduct Cardinal Heart 2.0 experiment
Astronauts conducted two investigations testing clinically approved drugs to reverse the negative effects on human heart cells and tissue caused by long-term exposure to the space environment.

The Emiratis also took part in the Sleep in Space Monitor, a study that monitors the sleep quality of astronauts during long-duration space missions on the International Space Station.
Reclaimed water cycle
Water is a very precious resource in space, and AlNeyadi is also responsible for ensuring a constant flow of drinking water aboard the International Space Station.
“Ensuring well-maintained life support systems are a key mission for astronauts, especially during long-duration missions,” the astronaut noted, posting a photo of himself wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) working on a water-recycling tank .
