To kick off the shopping season, OnePoll surveyed 2,000 U.S. gift-givers on behalf of brands that the key to gifting this holiday season is element of surprise.
- About 80 percent said it was more fun to give gifts when the recipient didn’t expect it.
- Nearly half (49%) think gifts are especially fun when they surprise both the giver and the recipient — such as mystery boxes or blind box items.
- More than a quarter (27%) of Americans use “amazing” to describe what makes the perfect gift.
The survey also found that the most common gift given to a child was a toy (72%), with a quarter of Americans aiming to earn the title of “ultimate gift giver” when giving gifts.
