A global survey has found that a whopping 95% of UAE workers are currently open to new opportunities in the job market.
The talent trends survey, conducted globally by recruitment firm PageGroup, Michael Page’s parent company, found that nearly 70% of respondents in the UAE were active job seekers. These individuals are either looking for new roles or planning to do so within the next six months. Another 27 percent are on the sidelines about looking elsewhere, but are waiting for an improving economy or the right opportunity.
The global survey covered 70,000 working adults around the world, including 625 respondents in the UAE.
The following are the key findings of the UAE report:
Finding new opportunities is now easier
Around half (54%) of the workforce in the UAE hold full-time office roles, with fully remote (11%) and hybrid work models (35%) increasingly the norm. This means more and more people are finding it easier to find work and be approached by recruiters while performing their duties in the privacy of their homes.
The data suggest that the “big resignation” trend is not slowing down, with the global resignation rate twice as high in 2022 as it was in 2021 (29% vs. 15%).
Pierre-Emmanuel Dupil, Senior Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Michael Page, said: “The great resignation, the quiet resignation and similar changes have dominated the conversation in the post-pandemic world of work. These terms refer to changes in workplace dynamics happening around the world. Subtle but transformative shifts. We believe these changes add up to an ‘invisible revolution’ with major implications for employers.”
Quiet exit is a trend that allows employees to do the bare minimum at work and not exceed the call of duty.
“A dramatic shift in employee attitudes and motivations has created a new talent landscape – no age group, country or industry will be affected. Things can no longer go back to how they were pre-pandemic; the changes we see today will continue exist.”
Job loyalty is no longer a given, Dupil said. “Even generally happy employees are willing to keep looking for better opportunities. The relentless resignation cycle isn’t slowing down — change is the new status quo.”
Nicholas Kirk, chief executive of PageGroup, said trends in the UAE reflected sentiment in the global talent market.
“It is clear that there is a general adjustment in people’s relationship with work. Work-life balance, competitive salaries and good career prospects have become non-negotiable, and professionals are willing to leave their current positions to obtain These.
“These are not fleeting trends or reactionary responses to turbulent times. Rather, they are reshaping the workplace in a way that subtly but fundamentally changes how businesses attract and retain talent.”
