Swiss true vision Will honor Argentinian filmmakers Lucrecia Martel Edition 54 (April 21-30). She will be giving masterclasses during the event while reviewing her work.

Shot with sensual and ambitious cinematography, Martel’s film examines the existential crisis of Argentina’s middle class, the country’s stifling social machinery, and the specter of its colonial past. Her films are meticulously detailed, steeped in a joyful cinephile atmosphere, and feature a mixture of fiction and reality.

Emilie Bujès, artistic director of Visions du Réel, describes Martel as “an important, rare and extraordinary figure in contemporary cinema […] With each of her films, she manages to boldly interpret the universe, composing an adventurous, disturbing and unique work, one that continues to challenge global cinema. “

In 2001, Martel had her breakthrough with her first feature film, “Shenaga”, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. It was followed by Santa Claus (2004) and A Woman’s Sin in 2008, which entered Competition at Cannes. Her fourth feature Zama (2017) had its world premiere in Venice.

In 2021, Martel makes a strong foray into documentary filmmaking with The Northern Terminal. The project heralds her next film, also non-fiction, due in 2023.

The project marks the first collaboration between Freemantle’s recently acquired Passenger, founded by Richard Brown (“True Detective”), and Sinestra, the company created by Emmy Award-winning director John Lenk (“Cherno”). Bailey”) and producer Michael Parets (“The Spacemen”) have signed a multi-year priority deal with Fremantle. Parets, Renck and Brown will executive produce with Newman, who will also adapt the novel for television.
