Taika Waititi jokes that Stranger Things ‘ruined’ Kate Bush.
The singer’s popularity soared after the hit “Running Up That Hill” in the fourth season of the 1985 hit Netflix show, but Taika quipped that he had a “feeling of ownership” with Bush’s music.
The 46-year-old director told NME: “I love that show, but as someone who really has Kate Bush’s music…I’m really pissed off!
“I’ve become one of those old bastards like, ‘These kids have never heard a Kate Bush song, they’ve heard a song on TV! They don’t know Kate Bush! I know Kate Bush!'” “
Taika has revealed that he wants to include “a bunch” of the artist’s songs in his new Marvel blockbuster Thor: Love and Thunder, before Stranger Things brings the singer back into the limelight.
“We’ll have ‘this woman’s work,’ which would be great for (a scene with) the Natalie Portman character,” he said.
Meanwhile, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink revealed she wanted to write a letter to Kate saying “thank you so much” for adding “so many hearts”, a key scene in the show for her character Max Mayfield.
The 20-year-old actress told Vulture: “The amount of time I’ve listened to her music over the past two years is ridiculous. I feel like I’ve created her in my head. I need to reach out in some way. I’d love to give She wrote a letter or something because she played such a big part in Max’s journey. I owe her so much.”
