Taliban claims to occupy more capitals of Afghanistan: live broadcast | Asia News

As foreign troops plan to withdraw from this war-torn country, the fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan army has intensified.

After occupying smaller administrative regions in the past few weeks, the Taliban continued to advance toward the urban centers of Afghanistan, claiming to occupy the sixth provincial capital within four days.

At the same time, the Afghan army tried to prevent the Taliban from attacking, claiming to have killed more than 500 members of the armed group.

As foreign troops plan to withdraw from this war-torn country before August 31, the fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan army has intensified.

The Taliban seize the sixth province of Afghanistan

Officials confirmed that Taliban militants control another provincial capital in northern Afghanistan, which is the sixth provincial capital in the past four days.

According to provincial legislator Raz Muhammad and two legislators representing the province in Parliament, the organization occupied the main government facilities in Ibak, the capital of Samangan Province.

One of the lawmakers said that after the central government failed to reinforce the troops, the pro-government forces abandoned the city and fled to the top of a mountain called Koh-e-Bast.

The UN says at least 27 children were killed in Afghanistan

The UN Children’s Agency stated that in the past three days, at least 27 children were killed and 136 injured in three provinces of Afghanistan due to the escalation of violence.

“Atrocities are increasing day by day,” UNICEF country representative Herve Ludovic De Lys said in an e-mailed statement.

The Afghan army claimed to have killed more than 500 Taliban fighters in air and ground offensives in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Defense stated that these operations were carried out in Nangarhar, Khost, Logar, Paktia, Kandahar, Herat, Farah, Jazjan, Samangan, Helmand, Tahar, Kunming. Duz and Panjshir provinces.

It said that some “due to the operations of Afghanistan’s ANDSF (Defense and Security Forces), 579 Taliban terrorists were killed and 161 injured”.
