Taylor Swift Hints Her New Song Is About Ex-Boyfriend Joe Alwyn
The songstress released the single “You’re Losing Me” on Friday, where she highlighted the reasons for the breakup, garnering attention from fans.
“You say, ‘I don’t get it,’ and I say, ‘I know you don’t get it,'” she said, belting out at the track.
“We thought a cure would come in time; now, I’m afraid not.”
Elsewhere in the song, Swift wonders, “Do I throw away everything we’ve built or keep it?” before admitting, “I’m even tired of the phoenix. Always rising from the ashes.”
“Stop, you’re losing me,” she repeats several times during the chorus, adding, “My heart won’t break for you anymore.”
“How can you say you love someone you can’t tell he’s dying?” she asked. “How long can we be a sad song, until we’re too far to be resurrected?”
Taylor then added, implying that marriage was the reason for her split from Alwyn.
“I wouldn’t marry me either. A sickly likeable. Who just wants you to see her.”
Taylor Swift and ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn split earlier this year after six years of dating.
A source told PEOPLE at the time: “They’ve had tough patches before but it always worked out, so the friends thought they’d be apart for a while, but they’re finally coming back together.”
They added that Swift, 33, and Alwyn, 32, “were not right for each other.”
