The Biden administration steps up the deportation of Haitian immigrants at the southern U.S. border

[ad_1]

TSR politics: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to increase deportation flights to Haiti next week as more than 10,000 mainly Haitian immigrants have taken refuge under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

According to reports, ICE plans to fly 8 deportation flights to Haiti next week, and then increase this number to 10 per week in response to the new wave of immigration on the southern border of the United States. NBC News.

Previously, the Biden government has suspended these flights in response to 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti last month. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security say that a deportation flight can accommodate approximately 135 immigrants.

The official also stated that most of the Haitians who came here did not come directly from the island, but had lived in South America for several years.

According to another document, in addition to deportation flights, ICE will also begin “lateral flights”, in which Haitian immigrants will be airlifted to other areas of the US border for processing, in order to solve the problem of overcrowding in Del Rio.

Officials explained that these migrants will be sent back to Haiti instead of South America, although many of these migrants have not lived in Haiti for many years due to the combined effects of natural disasters and political crises.

The advocacy organization Haitian Bridge Alliance stated that the Biden government should not expel Haitians “without providing Haitians with legal protection and the opportunity to apply for asylum.”

Spokespersons for ICE and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to NBC’s request for comment on this issue.
