When I heard the word “mansplaining” for the first time, I felt that someone had read my mind…and my heart. This word clarified many of my difficulties. I either left or responded with sarcasm (I have given up on the latter because my partner humbly asked me to stop throwing darts). Mansplaining is “a man’s explanation of something, usually to a woman, in a way that is considered condescending or condescending”. The responses are often different. After a while, I giggled and let go.
Ladies, if you have never been defiled, you must inherit heaven. This is the utopia I plan to inherit one day. For most of my 20s, I listened carefully to what I thought was “good advice” from senior people at home or work. Just as an uncle said to me at that time: “Did you know that Milton also wrote “Regain Paradise”?” He knew in his heart that I was not only a literature student, but also a top student in the university. I pretended to feel enlightened, just to make him feel good about myself.
When I first got married, a cousin who came to live with my husband started to suggest how to cook eggs to perfection. Knowing that he thought it was a chef-level task, it was indeed a bit embarrassing. I retorted to give him an omelet. Then some people seem to have figured out your political leanings and branded you “Left-leaning”, and are very angry about why the leftists are left in the debris.
Is it related to gender? Or about ourselves? As a woman, I might be scolded. But I am sure that there are also female slanderers. We all like the ideas of confident people. Those who show pride and grace in their body language. However, we are afraid of this confidence and will soon pierce it-sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously. When the desire to prove someone wrong far exceeds the desire based on logical arguments or conversation, the dialogue does not begin.
Mansplaining can be tedious, especially when the person you are talking to has an arrogant attitude. But after a while, I started to enjoy it. Not all battles can be won with words, and sometimes silence is necessary. Whenever I was blamed, the alarm in my head would sound. Humor comes from knowing that the other person loves his voice so much that in order to win the intellectual challenge, he has to say the obvious.
There is a moment like this recently because I want to talk about a column I wrote at an event. All indications are that the person who asked me the question did not actually read the column, but I am still excited about the prospect of talking about it. With two words from me, the entire interaction became the interviewer’s opinion on the topic of building “brand you”. My existence or my thoughts about what I write are accidental.
When my phone flickered, I felt a little frustrated when I got home. A friend reposted me a thoughtful quote about the importance of anger. “After centuries of human evolution, how did we handle it so badly?” She asked, not knowing my mood. “Because the body evolves, the mind…not always.”
